SPECIAL EVENTS:

Students- Tomorrow, November 11 we celebrate Veterans Day.   Veterans Day pays tribute to all American veterans–living or dead–but especially gives thanks to living veterans who served their country honorably during war or peacetime. This week we've heard from staff members who served in the military.  Today, four seniors who plan to serve in the military will lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance.  Michael Melton is working to get into a service academy.  Michael hopes to get into the Naval Academy, Air Force, or Merchant Marine Academy. Dustin Rimbeck, Evan Rodgers and Lincoln Vitry plan to enlist in the United States Marine Corps. Gentlemen, we thank you in advance for your service.

CLUB & ACTIVITY ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Our speech and debate team is dressed in all black today as we prepare to head to Golden tomorrow for the Demon Invitational.  Please cheer the team on.  Team members, we have a meeting after school in the speech room.  See you there

Join students from the LHS Choir Department as they perform solos at the Choir Solo Night on Monday, November 13th, at 7 p.m. in the Forum.  It is free and open to the public!

An Audition Information Meeting for the school musical, Disney's "The Little Mermaid", will take place next week on Wednesday, November 15th.  There are two meeting times, 2:30 p.m. and 3:15 p.m., but the information is the same at each meeting.  The school musical is open to everyone at LHS.  Attend one of the meetings next Wednesday and find out how you can be involved.

Mr. Farrell is holding open auditions for 2nd semester Concert Choir next Monday and Tuesday, November 13-14th.  An audition sign-up sheet and information on what is expected in the audition are on the Choir bulletin board.  Please see Mr. Farrell if you have any questions.

Are you 14 and 6 months old or older and would like to earn your drivers license at age 16? Well LPS Driver Education has a class starting after Thanksgiving Break for 3 weeks after school here at Littleton HS. For more information, go the Driver Education tab on the Littleton Public Schools website or see Mr. Vanoni in the LHS Resource Office if you have questions. Sign up ASAP.

The Holiday season is almost upon us and LHS has a perfect way for you to buy a great gift for your family and friends!!  The Musana School and Community Center in Uganda that was started by 2 Littleton high school students 9 years ago is a sister school of LHS and we will be selling their handmade products ALL WEEK next week for International Week!  So, come and buy necklaces, earrings, scarves, bags and much, much more--you can even buy a chicken for only $2 to help feed the school-kids!! It will be in the main lobby every period, every day next week, so bring your extra money or check book and help support Musana and get an awesome gift as well!

International Week is next week here at LHS and we have some amazing presentations!  Student and Teachers encourage one another to sign up to go to some of the sessions next week to learn about all kinds of international organizations,check out travel opportunities and meet amazing people!  We will have activities all week in addition to speakers--there's a Co-Ed Soccer tournament on Wednesday, Musana crafts being sold in the front lobby, Latin American Dance in the north gym on Friday during 8th, Brazilian Capoeira martial arts in the south gym Tues during 8th, and Henna Tattoos done by the art club all week in the art rooms.  So, open your minds to new ideas and new experiences next week and you will be amazed at what you learn!

Today, Amber Barnello, a special education teacher at LHS will lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance today Ms. Barnello served in the US Air Force and was stationed at Nellis Air Force Base, as well Kadena Air Force Base for 4 years working as a munitions specialist.  This assignment included inspecting and transporting munitions, as well as a trainer for munition transportation drivers.  She was deployed to Diego Garcia, in the Indian Ocean, during Desert Storm.  Ms. Barnello was also enlisted in the US Army National Guard and stationed in North Dakota and Las Vegas working in water purification.  Ms. Barnello, we thank you for your service.

ACADEMIC ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Lions Follies is here!  This is a great variety show that shows off the talent of LHS as well as our creativity and humor! There are two shows--Tonight Nov. 9 and Friday Nov. 10, both are at 7pm.  Tickets are being sold all week during lunches and ONLINE, starting at $6 for general admission and $8 for reserved seating.  This year we have a couple of SURPRISE acts---one on Thursday and one on Friday; the only hint you get is that it involves some of our LHS Faculty!!  So, come out and have a blast and help us fund raise for PROM!

Students and staff: There are still lots of openings for today’s and Friday's Bonfils blood drive.  If you are interested in donating please see Mr. Hahn in the counseling office to sign up.

Mr. Wentz served in the United States Coast Guard for eight years as a Rescue Survival Swimmer and a Maritime Law Enforcement Member. He was stationed in San Francisco and Seattle.  Mr. Wentz, we thank you for your service.

CLUB & ACTIVITY ANNOUNCEMENTS:

The Model UN Club will meet in room 2609 today at 2:20 pm. Students participating in this upcoming Saturday's Model UN Conference at Cherokee Trail High School should attend.

Poets and writers, we were sorry yesterday that we had to reschedule Jovan's visit, but rest assured, Jovan Mays will be coming to LHS today, Wednesday. We will be meeting in Ms. Thieme's room, 1745.  Jovan will run a poetry workshop and help prepare you for next week's LPS Poetry Slam.  And speaking of the slam, all students should come see the district poetry slam on Tuesday, November 14th, at the Ames Facility.  The slam starts at 7:00pm, and if you want to participate in the slam, please arrive at 5:00 for a pre-competition workshop.  See you there

Students- On Saturday, November 11 we celebrate Veterans Day.   Veterans Day pays tribute to all American veterans–living or dead–but especially gives thanks to living veterans who served their country honorably during war or peacetime.You will notice we have asked several veterans to be a part of our school days this week.  In-house veterans will lead us in the pledge throughout the week.  We encourage you to think about the sacrifices veterans made and take a moment to thank them for their service.Today, our new campus supervisor, John Mathews, will lead us in the pledge.  John served in the United States Marine Corps as a sergeant from 1981-1985.  He was stationed in Iwakuni, Japan at the Marine Corp Air station, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina and also in Denmark.  For the first two years of service he was a field Military Policeman with the second field service support group.  He finished his career as a base military policeman.  John, we thank you for your service.

ACADEMIC ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Attention poets and writers!  Jovan Mays is returning to LHS for a slam workshop on today, November 7th, after school in Ms. Thieme's room, room 1745.  Please bring your poems to workshop so we can be ready for the LPS District Poetry Slam, on Tuesday, November 14th.  Talk to your language arts teacher for more details."

Wanna be a hero and help save lives?  Did you know that approximately 10% of all blood donations come from high school blood drives?
National Honor Society is sponsoring a blood drive right here at Littleton High School on November 9th and 10th.  If you would like to donate blood please contact Mr. Hahn.  There are a limited number of spots and donors will be signed up on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Attention Lady Lionfish Swimmers  - there will be optional swim practices this week Tuesday and Thursday 3:00-4:00. Also attention Lady Lionfish Swimmers and Divers- On-line suit, tshirt, cap, and sweats orders are due Thursday Nov. 9 and we will have our 1st official swim practice on Friday November 10 3:00-4:00 - this will be a non water practice

STUDENT BULLETIN

STUDENT RECOGNITION AND CONGRATULATIONS:

Congratulations to LHS Orchestra students, Elissa Volling, Emma Nelson and Logan Nelson.  These students not only successfully auditioned for the 2017 Western States Honor Orchestra, they were also all selected as 1st chair, principal players of their sections, an outstanding honor.

Our speech and debate team got off to a strong start on Saturday, competing at the Cherry Creek Classic tournament.  Rebecca Zickerman and Kenneth Hunyh led the way.  Rebecca took 7th place in original oratory and Kenneth took 10th in Lincoln Douglas debate.  Will Luem, Kait Schultz, Hannah Pederson, Ashlyn McVicar, Natalie Parkhurst, Ivy Secrest, Addie Bouck, Jack Rayner and Hayley Hamilton were awarded excellent distinction in their events, and Will Dinneen earned superior mention in debate, as well.  Great way to start the season, Lions!"
