STUDENT BULLETIN

Students: We continue to discuss safety protocol here at LHS. As we prepare for a drill on Thursday, a Shelter in Place is initiated by an administrator over the PA in situations that may require staff and students for the interest of safety to shelter in their classrooms or work areas. This is the Orange box on the LHS safety chart posted in your classroom. Shelter in Place is stricter than a Secured Perimeter since staff and students are not allowed to move within the building and are sheltering in classrooms and work areas. Shelter in Place is less strict than a Lockdown since it allows staff and students to remain at desks or work areas. A Shelter in Place would be used in situations where there is a possibility that an area emergency may escalate and having students and staff sheltered behind locked doors may be paramount to safety and order.

How to respond during a Shelter in Place:

• If outside move inside-cease all outside activities until the threat passes.
• Students, staff and visitors are required to remain in their locked classrooms or work areas.
• Exterior doors will be locked and card readers will be disabled and no one is allowed in or out of the building.
• Close blinds on exterior windows.
• Take attendance/account for students.
• Be prepared to initiate other emergency protocols and wait for instructions.

You can refer to this information in the "Classroom Emergency Flip Chart" posted on all classroom walls.
