On Saturday, our speech and debate team competed in person at the STRIVE SMART Academy Invitational. We had a small team, but they sure were awesome. Taking home top honors were Vince Lucas, who placed 7th in Original Oratory; Andrew Desjardins, who placed 5th in the Lincoln Douglas debate; Savannah Johnson, who placed 6th in Humor; and Eamon Lujan, who placed 2nd in Humor. Senior captain Nick Hopper placed 6th in the Lincoln Douglas debate and was awarded the 2nd overall top speaker in debate. This was the first in-person tournament for LHS in 645 days, and the team showed up and brought positivity, professionalism, and grace in victory and defeat. From Coach Saliman and Coach De La Torre, we couldn't be more thrilled with this squad.
