STUDENT BULLETIN
Students: Our final box on the safety chart to cover is the red box which is Lockdown. Our district security as well as law enforcement tells us that we may have to consider our options related to Lockdown.

Shelter:
Alert others - Any staff member can call a lockdown when they detect a threat. Call 911 when safe to do so. Lock the door (s) and shut off the lights. Consider barricade options. Get students, staff and visitors quiet in a low position behind large items that might provide extra protection (i.e., desks, file cabinets)ready to move and out of corridor line of sight. Account for those in your care. Don’t open the doors for anyone. If in corridor, shelter in nearest safe room. If the fire alarm goes off stay where you are unless threatened by smoke and fire. Be prepared to EVADE-DEFEND-CARE.

Evade:
If not able to get to a safe location in the building, use your hearing, vision, smell, and touch senses and run away from the commotion; find the nearest exit, and flee to a safe location. In a classroom consider your doors and windows escape options if the threat approaches. If a threat is nearby and you cannot seek cover safely, seek concealment (hide). If outside rally your students. Flee away from the threat in the opposite direction to the nearest safe cover. Call 911 when safe. Be prepared to SHELTER-DEFEND-CARE.

Defend:
As a last resort and only if your life is in imminent danger attempt to incapacitate a threatening person by any means possible. Be prepared to EVADE-SHELTER-CARE.

Care: Call 911. Be a leader. Reassure and provide comfort to those in your care. Give emergency first aid to the best of your abilities to those who are injured. Be prepared to EVADE-SHELTER-DEFEND.

STUDENT BULLETIN

Students: We continue to discuss safety protocol here at LHS. As we prepare for a drill on Thursday, a Shelter in Place is initiated by an administrator over the PA in situations that may require staff and students for the interest of safety to shelter in their classrooms or work areas. This is the Orange box on the LHS safety chart posted in your classroom. Shelter in Place is stricter than a Secured Perimeter since staff and students are not allowed to move within the building and are sheltering in classrooms and work areas. Shelter in Place is less strict than a Lockdown since it allows staff and students to remain at desks or work areas. A Shelter in Place would be used in situations where there is a possibility that an area emergency may escalate and having students and staff sheltered behind locked doors may be paramount to safety and order.

How to respond during a Shelter in Place:

• If outside move inside-cease all outside activities until the threat passes.
• Students, staff and visitors are required to remain in their locked classrooms or work areas.
• Exterior doors will be locked and card readers will be disabled and no one is allowed in or out of the building.
• Close blinds on exterior windows.
• Take attendance/account for students.
• Be prepared to initiate other emergency protocols and wait for instructions.

You can refer to this information in the "Classroom Emergency Flip Chart" posted on all classroom walls.

STUDENT BULLETIN
Students: We will complete two safety drills on Thursday morning following announcements. Before we complete the drills, it is important to spend time during announcements to discuss LPS procedures related to Safety and Security.

A Secured Perimeter is initiated by an administrator over the PA when a threat is outside the building. This is the yellow box on the LHS safety chart posted in your classroom. Secured perimeters are often implemented due to emergency situations that take place in the neighborhood close to schools. Examples that may prompt a secure perimeter being called include a bank robbery near a school, police activity, or a dangerous animal in the area.

How to respond during a Secure Perimeter:

*If outside, move inside the building -cease all outside activities until the threat has passed.

*Students, staff, and visitors are allowed to move within the building.

*Exterior doors will be locked, and card readers will be disabled. No one is allowed in or out of the building.

*Close blinds on exterior windows.

*Take attendance/account for students.

*Be prepared to initiate other emergency protocols and await instructions.
