Special Events:

Happy Earth Day LHS! In Spring 1970, Senator Gaylord Nelson created Earth Day as a way to "force environmental issues onto the national agenda." 20 million Americans demonstrated in different U.S. cities, and it worked! In December 1970, Congress authorized the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency to tackle environmental issues such as clean air and water, which later resulted in the passage of the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and Endangered Species Act. Today the Earth Day Network has a global reach with more than 20,000 partners and organizations in 190 countries. More than 1 billion people participate in Earth Day activities, making it the largest secular civic event in the world.

Earthweek Events in the Forum:
Block 1: Film "Earth Days"
Block 2: Presentation by Denver Water staff members Mr. Rob Buirgy and Matt Bond
Block 3: Film "River at Risk"
Block 4: Film "Secrets Beneath the Ice"

*Tomorrow is designated as Voluntary Lights Off Day-if you can run classes without electricity today we encourage you to join in and attempt to lower our school's carbon footprint.
