STUDENT BULLETIN

Leading the Pledge today – Veteran, Amber Barnello

Amber Barnello, a special education teacher, will lead us in the pledge today.  Amber served in the Air Force for 4 years and was stationed at Kadena Air Force Base for 4 years.  She also served at Nellis Air Force Base for 2 years as as well as being deployed to Diego Garcia, in the Indian Ocean, during Desert Storm inspecting, transporting and loading munitions, as well as a trainer for munition tractor-trailer drivers.  Her final 3 years of military service was in the Army National guard stationed in North Dakota and Las Vegas working in water purification. Amber, thank you for your service!

Academic Announcements:

Attention Seniors!  A representative from Fort Lewis College will be in the Post Grad Center from 12-2 on Monday, Nov. 16th, for Application Day!  She will meet with students to review application materials and, in many cases, provide you with an admission decision on the spot.  She will also waive the $40 application fee.  If Fort Lewis is on your list, do not miss this opportunity!  Come by Post Grad for more information and to sign up for a meeting time.

Special Events:

The International Week Soccer Tournament is on Wednesday, November 18 after school in the stadium. See coach Banfield for a registration form.Your teams must be registered by the end of school on Monday, November 16 to be able to play.

Sports Announcements:

Any student interested in Track and Field this spring please on plan on attending a short meeting on Tuesday, November 17 at 2:30 in the health room.

Attention Spring and Fall Athletes. Lion Elite Athletic Performance Camp (or LEAP Camp) is here at LHS and ready to help athletes Maximize their Athletic Potential with the latest techniques in training and conditioning. Come learn more about LEAP CAMP on Tuesday, November 17th at 2:45 in the health room.

Leading the Pledge today – Veteran, Derek Kargo

Derek Kargo will lead us in the pledge today.  Derek is an assistant football coach and campus supervisor.  Derek enlisted US Navy in 2006 and served until 2014.  Derek spent 4 years on active duty as an aviation fueler on board the USS Theodore Roosevelt CVN-71 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.  Thereafter, Derek conducted 4 more years in the Navy Reserves as an intelligence analyst at Buckley Air Force Base.  Derek, thank you for your service!

Happy Veterans Day

Club Announcements:

The Model UN Club will meet in Room 2609 in the Social Studies hallway TODAY at 2:20pm. This is an essential meeting for any students who are interested and or right planning to participate in the Vancouver, British Columbia Model UN Conference that will be held between January, 21-24.

There will be a Key Club meeting in room 2620 on Thursday at 2.15 p.m.  We will be making pinwheels for students rebuild.  Please bring a few canned goods to donate to the LHS Thanksgiving food basket drive to the meeting if you are able.

Wrestling starts on Thursday.   Please get registered and be ready to practice this Thursday at 3pm in the new mat room (or the old weight room).

Attention Lady Lion Fish - Regular swim practice will begin on Thursday November 12th.  Practice on Thursday the 12th and Friday the 13th will be from 3:00-5:00 for all swimmers.  Please remember if you would like to participate in practice on Thursday you must have your blue card filled out and turned in.  No card, no swim practice.

Preseason Camp for girls basketball camp is TODAY from 3:00-5:00 in the North gym.  All girls interested in playing this season are encouraged to attend in preparation for Thursday and Friday's tryouts.  We are Building Tradition and want you to join us!

STUDENT BULLETIN

Special Events:

Students- Tomorrow, November 11 we celebrate Veterans Day.   Veterans Day pays tribute to all American veterans–living or dead–but especially gives thanks to living veterans who served their country honorably during war or peacetime.

You will notice we have asked several veterans to be a part of our school days this week.  In-house veterans will lead us in the pledge throughout the week.  Yesterday we invited veterans from the George C. Evans Post 103 to have lunch with you in the cafeteria.  We hope you had a chance to welcome them.  We encourage you to think about the sacrifices veterans made and take a moment to thank them for their service!

Academic Announcements:

LHS SWIM TEST is TODAY at 2:30pm sharp (be dressed and ready to swim!)

There is a Colorado Math League competition TODAY after school in room 121 at 2:30. See you there!

Attention Seniors!  Are you planning to attend a four-year college?  Do you have a cumulative, unweighted GPA of 3.5 or above?  Do you have financial need and a strong commitment to the community?  If yes, please come to Post Grad and pick up information about the Greenhouse Scholars scholarship program.  This scholarship provides comprehensive personal and financial support (up to $5,000 per year!).  Application deadline is January 4th.

Seniors & Juniors, have your parents paid online for your parking permit and you have not picked it up?  Do not wait any longer, the spaces are running out for the purple parking lot.  Sophomores you may now purchase parking permits.
