Susan La Flesche Picotte was the first Native American woman to earn a medical degree in the United States. She devoted her life to caring for her community and advocating for better health care for all. Her compassion and determination broke barriers for Native women in medicine.

Last night, the 15th annual LPS Poetry Slam was held at Options High School. We were so impressed with all of the students and their brave words, and LHS showed up! Thank you so much, and congratulations to Julie Krueger, Malina Murray, Caroline May, Esme Ahles, Chuck Wintzen, Liana Lundberg, Kooper Griggs, Elise Analovitch, and Maddie Jeffries for sharing your voices and poems last night. And extra congratulations to Elise for taking 2nd place and senior Caroline May for taking 1st place! We have some talented voices at LHS!
Congratulations to our Chess Club players who competed at Cherry Creek High last Saturday. Grayson Manuel took 1st, and Broderick Evilsizer and Xander Accas placed in the top ten for our varsity team. Nicholas Un earned 2nd, and Liam Clune took 6th for our JV team. Good job, team! There will be no Chess Club this Thursday. See you next Thursday.

LHS Community Pantry
The Sources of Strength program's Community Pantry is up and running! While students receive free breakfast and lunch at school, many could use a little extra help with shelf-stable items they can take home for dinner or weekend meals.
If your family could benefit from the Community Pantry, have your student visit room 1219 between 8 am and 8:15 am or either lunch on odd days. We have pasta, pasta sauce, canned vegetables, canned fruit, soup, mac and cheese, canned tuna, ramen, rice, snacks, and more! Support the LHS No Shave November Fundraiser, hosted by the Student Council in support of Wish Week! We’d love for you to join in on the fun, the more, the merrier! The event will run through November 21st. To participate, you can donate $10 or more through Go fan for No Shave November. To get started, take a photo of your clean-shaven face or leg (calf). Then, on November 21st, take an updated photo to see your progress! If you make a donation, you will be entered into a drawing to get the chance to shave Dr. Velazquez and/or Student Body President Gavin Reidy faces. Join the fun, support a great cause, and let’s make this No Shave November one to remember!

Día 8 – Susan La Flesche Picotte (tribu Omaha):
Susan La Flesche Picotte fue la primera mujer indígena americana en obtener un título de medicina en los Estados Unidos. Dedicó su vida a cuidar de su comunidad y a abogar por una mejor atención médica para todos. Su compasión y determinación rompieron barreras para las mujeres indígenas en la medicina.

Anoche se celebró la decimoquinta edición anual del certamen de poesía LPS en la escuela preparatoria Options. ¡Nos impresionaron mucho todos los estudiantes y sus valientes palabras, y LHS estuvo presente! Muchas gracias y felicitaciones a Julie Krueger, Malina Murray, Caroline May, Esme Ahles, Chuck Wintzen, Liana Lundberg, Kooper Griggs, Elise Analovitch y Maddie Jeffries por compartir sus voces y poemas anoche. ¡Y felicitaciones especiales a Elise por obtener el segundo lugar y a la estudiante de último año Caroline May por obtener el primer lugar! ¡Tenemos voces talentosas en LHS!

Despensa comunitaria de LHS
¡La despensa comunitaria del programa Sources of Strength ya está en funcionamiento! Aunque los estudiantes reciben desayuno y almuerzo gratis en la escuela, a muchos les vendría bien un poco de ayuda adicional con alimentos no perecederos que puedan llevarse a casa para la cena o las comidas del fin de semana.
Si su familia puede beneficiarse de la despensa comunitaria, pida a su hijo que visite el salón 1219 entre las 8:00 y las 8:15 a. m. o durante el almuerzo en los días impares. Tenemos pasta, salsa para pasta, verduras enlatadas, fruta enlatada, sopa, macarrones con queso, atún enlatado, ramen, arroz, aperitivos y mucho más. Luego, el 21 de noviembre, toma una foto actualizada para ver tu progreso.
