Wilma Mankiller was the first woman elected as Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation. She expanded access to education, health care, and housing for her people, and became a national voice for women’s empowerment. Her leadership continues to inspire Native and non-Native communities alike.
CONGRATULATIONS:
We kicked off varsity season for Speech and Debate this past Saturday with an exciting tournament at Cherry Creek. Many members competed in their first varsity tournament, and Abby Heider took home a first-place trophy in Informative Speaking. Congrats to Abby and everyone who competed!

Girls' basketball players, the last open gym of the off-season will take place today from 4-6 in the north gym. Preseason camp begins next Monday at 4:00 and runs Monday-Thursday! We hope to see any interested players today and again next week at preseason camp to get ready for tryouts on November 17.

Support the LHS No Shave November Fundraiser, hosted by the Student Council in support of Wish Week! We’d love for you to join in on the fun, the more, the merrier! The event will run through November 21st. To participate, you can donate $10 or more through here for No Shave November. To get started, take a photo of your clean-shaven face or leg (calf). Then, on November 21st, take an updated photo to see your progress! If you make a donation, you will be entered into a drawing to get the chance to shave Dr. Velazquez and/or Student Body President Gavin Reidy faces. Join the fun, support a great cause, and let’s make this No Shave November one to remember!

Día 2 – Wilma Mankiller (Nación Cherokee):
Wilma Mankiller fue la primera mujer elegida jefa principal de la nación cherokee. Amplió el acceso a la educación, la atención médica y la vivienda para su pueblo, y se convirtió en una voz nacional para el empoderamiento de las mujeres. Su liderazgo sigue inspirando tanto a las comunidades indígenas como a las no indígenas.
FELICITACIONES:
El sábado pasado dimos inicio a la temporada Varsity de Discurso y Debate con un emocionante torneo en Cherry Creek. Muchos miembros compitieron en su primer torneo Varsity, y Abby Heider se llevó a casa el trofeo al primer lugar en Discurso Informativo. ¡Felicidades a Abby y a todos los que compitieron!

Jugadoras de baloncesto femenino, el último entrenamiento abierto de la temporada baja tendrá lugar hoy de 4 a 6 en el gimnasio norte. ¡El campamento de pretemporada comienza el próximo lunes a las 4:00 y se llevará a cabo de lunes a jueves! Esperamos ver a todas las jugadoras interesadas hoy y de nuevo la próxima semana en el campamento de pretemporada para prepararse para las pruebas de selección del 17 de noviembre.
